Between the 17th and 18th of February 2015, the 2nd Pakistan Conference on Sanitation (PACOSAN) took place in Islamabad, Pakistan. The conference was organised by the Ministry of Climate Change, with the support of WaterAid, UNICEF, Water and Sanitation Program – South Asia (WSP-SA), Plan Pakistan and other sector partners.
The event resulted in the PACOSAN Declaration which emphasized the need to 'capitalize on the strong political will, local leadership and community ownership to boost sanitation coverage and improve hygiene practices substantially by 2025'. Participants unanimously agreed that the focus of proper sanitation and hygiene in Pakistan should be based on a paradigm that is 'people centered, community led, gender sensitive and demand driven'.
