Key resource: CLTS Sharing and Learning Workshop, SACOSAN VII – Islamabad Pakistan

On April 10th 2018 the Institute of Development Studies, UNICEF and WSSCC co-convened a half-day Sharing and Learning Workshop in Islamabad, Pakistan, ahead of the 7th South Asian Conference on Sanitation. Over 50 participants from across region including those working in Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka as well as international agencies participated. This report contains key points from the lively discussions, together with research, innovations and recommendations for the SACOSAN Declaration.

South Asian Regional Conference on Sustainable Sanitation Solutions

The Regional Sanitation Centre (RSC) for SACOSAN is an independent institution established by the Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply, Sri Lanka in 2017. The RSC has been legally constituted by the Government of Sri Lanka to fulfil its commitment made at the SACOSAN VI in Dhaka, Bangladesh.  The RSC in collaboration with regional partners is organising this conference from 25 to 27 January 2019 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Unpacking the Processes of Open Defecation Free Status in Udaipur: A case study of Udaipur, Rajasthan

This report is the culmination of a study conducted by the Centre for Policy Research's 'Accountability Initiative' on Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin in 2017 on the request of the Udaipur district administration. This study aims to understand the detailed process evaluation of the implementation of the recent sanitation efforts in Udaipur, and the outcomes, which led to Open Defecation Free status in selected Gram Panchayats.

Sustainability of ODF achievements and safely managed sanitation in West and Central Africa

At the recent West and Central Africa Regional Rural Sanitation workshop, organised by the CLTS Knowledge Hub, in Saly, Senegal 25-28 June 2018, sanitation practitioners from 15 countries met to discuss regional and national sanitation challenges, to identify lessons learned and share best practices. Many participants identified the different components of the sustainability of open defecation free (ODF) achievements and links with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically with the ‘safely managed sanitation’ target 6.2, as significant challenges.
