On the 6th January 2012, EWB and the Ministry of Health, supported by IDS, held a district-level sanitation monitoring and evaluation (M&E) pilot review workshop. The objectives of this workshop included:

• updates on the current status of the pilot program,
• clarification on the proposed indicators,
• review of responsibilities,
• data collection, entry, and analysis activities,
• harmonization of proposed district indicators with other sector indicators,
• the creation of an action plan for going forward.
  

Research conducted in rural Bangladesh in Union Parishads that were declared 100% open defecation free almost five years ago shows that 90% of households in the areas studied have sustained use of a latrine that adequately confines feces.
