The District Governments of Timor Tengah Selatan (TTS) and Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) in East Nusa Tenggara Province have been presented with MDG Awards by the National Government of Indonesia under the category of Access to Decent Sanitation. The award ceremony was attended by the Indonesian Ministry of Health represented by Ms Nafsiah Mboy and the Indonesian President’s Special Envoy of MDGs, Ms Nila Moeloek, and took place at the Jakarta Theater Ballroom on Saturday the 15th March 2014.
The award was given for the successful implementation of STBM (CLTS) by the district governments of TTS and TTU, Plan Indonesia and SIMAVI since 2010. The Government of Indonesia appreciates the STBM program’s successful reduction of diarrhoea incidence in both districts. The program successfully triggered communities to build their own sanitation facilities without subsidies. During the STBM implementation in TTS/TTU districts more than 40 billions rupiah was contributed by the community to build their own sanitation facilities.
