2nd South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN-2) & 1-day CLTS Workshop

h3. Background

The overall goal of the SACOSAN-2 Conference was to accelerate the progress of sanitation and hygiene work in the South Asia so as to enhance its peoples’ quality of life in fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals and the commitments made in the World Summit on Sustainable Development.

Conference Objectives

  • To review progress made in implementation of the Dhaka Declaration (PDF) of the 1st South Asian Conference on Sanitation (held in 2003).
  • To reiterate political commitment in each country of the region for furthering the sanitation agenda.
  • To facilitate development of country-specific as well as regional frameworks for sanitation.
  • To share experiences and lessons learnt in sanitation and hygiene promotion
  • To increase outreach of sanitation agenda in the region

CLTS Workshop

A one day workshop was held on September 19th on Community Led Total Sanitation, facilitated by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and WSP. The purpose of the workshop was to facilitate learning and exchange between the various agencies that are facilitating CLTS in various countries.
