Key resource: Men and boys in sanitation and hygiene: A desk-based review

This desk review explores existing literature and examples of men’s and boys’ behaviours and gender roles in sanitation and hygiene (S&H) and the extent to which the engagement of men and boys in S&H processes is leading to sustainable and transformative change in households and communities. We developed an analytical framework for the review clustered around 3 areas: with men as objects to change, agents of change and partners for change.

Webinar: Designing Effective Sanitation Enterprises

On September 26, the USAID-funded Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Partnerships and Learning for Sustainability (WASHPaLS) Project held this webinar and discussion on sanitation enterprises and design considerations. WASHPaLS presents a detailed discussion of the elements of a sanitation enterprise including mechanisms and practices, design approaches, and key considerations based upon the findings a recent WASHPaLS desk review.

Unpacking the Processes of Open Defecation Free Status in Udaipur: A case study of Udaipur, Rajasthan

This report is the culmination of a study conducted by the Centre for Policy Research's 'Accountability Initiative' on Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin in 2017 on the request of the Udaipur district administration. This study aims to understand the detailed process evaluation of the implementation of the recent sanitation efforts in Udaipur, and the outcomes, which led to Open Defecation Free status in selected Gram Panchayats.

Atelier régional sur l’assainissement rural en Afrique de l’Ouest et du Centre : Note d’apprentissage

Le CLTS Knowledge Hub, basé à l’Institute of Development Studies, WaterAid, le WSSCC et l’UNICEF ont co-organisé un atelier régional à Saly, au Sénégal, du 25 au 28 juin 2018, avec l’aide de l’AGETIP. L’événement a réuni les personnes impliquées dans la programmation de l’eau, l’assainissement et l’hygiène (EAH) en milieu rural dans 14 pays de la région (Bénin, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Gambie, Ghana, Libéria, Mali, Mauritanie, Niger, Nigéria, République Démocratique du Congo (RDC), Sénégal, Tchad et Togo) aux côtés d’experts travaillant aux niveaux régional et mondial.

Key resource: CLTS Knowledge Hub Learning Brief: West and Central Africa Regional Rural Sanitation Workshop

The CLTS Knowledge Hub, based at the Institute of Development Studies, WaterAid, WSSCC and UNICEF co-convened a regional workshop in Saly, Senegal, 25th-28th June 2018 with support from AGETIP. The event brought together those engaged in rural WASH programming from 14 countries across the region (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic Congo (DRC), Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Togo) alongside experts working at regional and global levels.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Association between Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Exposures and Cholera in Case–Control Studies

Case–control studies are conducted to identify cholera transmission routes, and Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) exposures can facilitate or interrupt cholera transmission. Up until now there had been no systematic analysis of the association between WASH exposures and cholera from case–control studies. Seeing this gap, researchers from Tufts University Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Medford, Massachusetts undertook a systematic review.

WASH Experiences of Women Living with Disabilities in Cambodia
