Plan International, Pakistan and UNICEF have jointly launched an “Early recovery programme on Rural Sanitation in flood affected districts of Pakistan” after the devastating floods of 2010. The programme is based on CLTS.

It comproses three major phases, the first of which was initiated in October 2010. Each phase deals with a different aspect of the overall situation. On completion a total of 7.45 million people in 32 flood affected districts of Pakistan including AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan will have benefited from the programme interventions. This constitues more than half of the total targeted population.

Sanitation Marketing is of pivotal importance and the component has been an integral part of the program CLTS success. The emphasis has been given to the establishment of Rural Sanitation Marts and the identification and capacity building of sanitation entrepreneurs at Union Council (UC) level.
