Evaluation of Strategy for Scaling Up CLTS in Ghana

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

This evaluation sought to asses the suitability of CLTS as the preferred approach to rural sanitation based on the experience with four CLTS pilot projects. It found that the pilots significantly improved sanitation coverage and practices in the communities within the 18 months of implementation and makes recommendations for adopting the approach as a national strategy.

The Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Plan, UNICEF and WaterAid have been piloting CLTS since 2007 in approximately 308 communities in Northern, Upper West, Eastern, Central and Greater Accra Regions with an attempt to scale up hygiene and sanitation improvements.
