Report from a Training of Trainers Workshop on Community-Led Total Sanitation facilitated by Knowledge Links in Gulbarga, Karnataka, from the 16th to 20th August 2010.
Gulbarga has been a poorly performing district under the Government of India’s Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) with very low sanitation coverage of 15% and not a single ODF village at the time of the workshop. However, the training of trainers marked a successful beginning in initiating the process of behavior change in rural Gulbarga. On the last day of the workshop, when Natural Leaders made their presentations, four villages committed to make their villages open defecation free within 2 months. Children played a crucial role- one small child dug his toilet pit on the day of triggering itself, even though he was on a fast (Roza) at the time.
