At Ghana’s first National Environmental Sanitation Conference (NESCON) in December 2010, one of the recommendations put forward was that the government should set up a revolving fund for Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) initiatives, in collaboration with Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs) and local government.

In her article in the Guardian Rose George maintains that the recent news coverage of cholera outbreaks overlooks a proportionately much larger problem: diarrhoea. She bemoans the lack of attention given to diarrhoeal disease which kills 300 children every hour and is the second largest cause of death in children in the developing world.
