This Field Note forms part of UNICEF’s efforts to document its urban WASH programme experience and expertise, to inform the development of a global urban WASH framework and support the Global WASH Strategy. It focuses on a specific context in urban WASH programming: Low Income Communities (LICs) in megacities. It documents UNICEF’s experiences in provision of WASH services to LICs of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Around the world people are being treated in health care facilities that lack adequate water, sanitation, hygiene materials and the right waste segregation- essentials that make health care safe. In 2018 the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres issued a Global Call to Action on WASH in all health care facilities to address this problem.

Proceedings from the 7th virtual conference on Menstrual Hygiene Management in Schools

The virtual conference on Menstrual Hygiene Management in Schools is an annual event that enables global sharing of new ideas and 'lessons learned', and connects people working on MHM in schools in a wide range of countries. The 7th virtual conference was held on 30 October 2018 as part of the Water & Health Conference, hosted by the Water Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the USA. The presenters covered work on MHM that spanned countries and regions across the world, identifying shared challenges in programme design, implementation, and monitoring.

WCAR Sanitation Industry Consultation

This consultation convened by UNICEF in Abuja, Nigeria from 13-15 November 2018, brought together industry, financial institutions, governments and development partners to discuss shaping sanitation markets in the West and Central Africa Region, with a focus on three countries: Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria. This brief summarises the key points raised and next steps moving forward to strengthen sanitation markets in the region.
