Food security
There is more than enough food in the world to feed everyone, but the number of people affected by hunger and malnutrition is still unacceptably high, with disproportionate impacts on women and girls. Food and nutrition insecurity is a political and economic phenomenon fuelled by inequitable global and national processes. It is also a sustainability and gender justice issue. Why do hunger and malnutrition continue to exist in a world where everyone should be guaranteed the basic right to adequate, nutritious food? Why and how are women and girls so disproportionately affected by hunger? In what ways do unequal gender power relations both create and perpetuate experiences of food and nutrition insecurity? Why are women and girls’ vital contributions to food production unrecognised and invisible? How can gender-just solutions to food and nutrition insecurity be created that promote gender equality?

ActionAid International
ActionAid is a major development charity with its head office in Johannesburgh, South Africa. Their work includes supporting food and land rights, including those of women: supporting small-scale farming, campaigning to stop land grabs and advocating for increased and improved public financing for agriculture which helps close the gender gap.
Oxfam GB
Oxfam GB is an international development organisation, also working in campaigning and emergency humanitarian support. Their work includes the GROW food justice campaign, which covers climate change, food prices, intensive farming practices and land grabs.
Compatible Technology Interactional
Compatible Technology International (CTI) designs and distributes tools that help people combat hunger and poverty. They talk to farmers, many of whom are women, to understand their concerns and needs then research existing solutions, developing prototypes in collaboration with communities. Based in the US, they work with distribution partners centers in Central America, and in West Africa.
Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture & Natural Resource Management
Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture & Natural Resource Management (WOCAN) is a women-led international membership network that assists agriculture and natural resource management organisations to strengthen women’s leadership and mainstream gender into their internal structures, programs, projects and policies.

The Spanish language Anacaonas website has a section dedicated to Gender and Food Sovereignty – the concept that communities should have control over the way food is produced, traded and consumed.

Gender and Food Security Cutting Edge Pack
BRIDGE is very excited to announce the launch the Gender and Food Security Cutting Edge Pack. Working with over 40 gender, food and nutrition experts, the pack is a result of a three year collaborative programme, which explored why food security is a gender justice issue and what needs to change to ensure gender-just food security.
