Latin America conference addresses work with men and youth

Boys take part in a community mapping exercise during a CCAFS and CIAT conducted participatory photography project in Chiquimula, Guatemala

Working specifically with men and boys is increasingly being established as one effective strategy in the struggle for gender equality.

For many organisations this can be new territory and an event is taking place in Latin America to support them and build on the existing work taking place. The conference ‘Justice, Wealth, Sex and Love – working with men and youth for equal rights’ has been organised by We Effect, Promundo, MenEngage and other civil society organisations and agencies. It takes place 9-10 December 2015 in Antigua, Guatemala.

The main aim of the event is to provide tools for organisations who intend to do strategic programmatic planning to work with men and boys for the promotion of equal rights. It also aims to strengthen links and alliances between agencies and civil society, and offer knowledge and good practice to bridge theory and action.

Around 150 people from various parts of Latin America are expected to attend the event, including representatives of churches, aid organisations, civil society, academic institutions and activists in the field of women's rights and involvement of men. BRIDGE International Advisory Committee member and General Coordinator of our partner organisation Sulá Batsú, Kemly Camacho, will also be taking part.
