Publisher: BRIDGE
Publication Date: Jan 2008
This annotated bibliography presents a selection of materials on gender and development from individuals and organisations based in Spanish-speaking countries. The resources reflect the main issues that women's movements have recently been grappling with in Latin America, such as the impact of globalisation on the feminist agenda, the importance of accounting for unpaid reproductive work, Christian fundamentalisms and the need to incorporate gender and social justice into feminist strategies. It aims to give visibility to a wide range of perspectives and to communicate the innovative work of diverse feminist Latin American actors, based in different types of organisations and institutions, including local non-governmental organisations (NGOs), regional networks and research programmes. New trends and strategies highlighted include: alliance building within women's movements and with other social movements, acknowledging and valuing the voice of young feminists, and recognising racial and cultural diversities. Key themes include abortion and sexual and reproductive rights, economic justice and employment, the care economy, feminist leaderships, armed conflict and peace-building, gender based violence, abortion, democratic governance, gender responsive budgeting and masculinities.
