The Transform Nutrition leaders network was launched at an event Delhi in December. The audience included Transforming Nutrition short course cohort from 2012 to 2015, nutrition researchers and nutrition champions. The overall theme was ‘ Cross sectoral communication within nutrition and building on the strengths of networks’.
Mr. Basanta Kumar Kar, Senior Advisor in The Coalition for Food and Nutrition Security (India) and one of Transform Nutrition’s ‘2015 Champions of Nutrition’, spoke about his work, the importance of cross-sectoral linkages in nutrition and gave us some examples of how a lack of consultation and interaction between sectors has negatively affected his practice. He also gave us some thoughts about the power and influence which can be harnessed with effective networking.
Mr Harish Chand, from World Vision India and a participant in the 2014 India short course spoke about how the course has positively informed his practice and gave us some examples of what connections he has built with his cohort and what these connections have resulted in. Lawrence Haddad and Purnima Menon also spoke about what they hoped the network would achieve with participation and guidance and why it’s an important part of nurturing current and future leaders in nutrition.
We also have some reflections on the nutrition short course from by Manjula Singh from Children’s Investment Fund Foundation who wasn’t able to attend the event.
The Transform Nutrition leaders network is a community of nutrition experts that connect with their peers nationally and globally to share experiences and lessons. The network will provide a platform to contribute to discussions on the realities of tackling malnutrition and advocate for political leaders to prioritise nutrition on their agendas. Through regular communications, including webinars, events and blogs, there will be many opportunities and different ways to engage and participate in the Network. All Transform Nutrition short course participants and nutrition champions will be invited to take part.
