A vital part of the PAL for Gender Mainstreaming process is to ensure that the information you have gathered – and the good practices you have identified – are documented and effectively communicated. You should be documenting your learning from the outset, taking and storing photos and video, and collecting any other relevant information. This is so that others in your organisation can avoid replication and build on existing good practices, or adapt the learning for a different context. It also enables you to share knowledge on effective gender mainstreaming approaches with other audiences beyond your organisation.

When planning a knowledge sharing strategy questions to ask are:

  • What are the key messages you want to communicate, and what examples will you use to illustrate them?
  • Who are potential audiences for the knowledge and learning? For example, do you want to communicate to other members of your organisation in-country, or on a regional or global scale? Do you want to reach out to existing and potential partner organisations, or do you want a broader public audience to know about your work?
  • What format will be most effective for presenting the knowledge and learning? In a world of competing information how will you make sure the information is presented in an engaging, creative way that is also clear and appropriate for the audience you wish to reach? For example, will you develop a report, a short case study, a short film, a slide show – or will you simply communicate through a well-planned meeting?
  • What channels will you use to share the knowledge? For example will you use the internet, distribute printed materials, hold information sharing events, etc.?
