Gender dynamics in labour markets in South Asia and Middle East and North Africa
At a time when policymakers in different parts of the world have become increasingly interested in promoting women’s engagement with the labour market, persisting barriers remain a challenge. A workshop with scholars explored research evidence and policy engagement in South Asia and in the Middle East and North Africa.
This study utilizes household survey data from four African and Asian countries to examine in depth, and on a comparable basis, the evolving nature of female labour supply in low income countries over the past two to three decades, and to analyse the links with poverty reduction.
