Event: ‘Raising Learning Outcomes’ Africa Symposium

In September 2018, researchers from nine countries in sub-Saharan Africa gathered in Johannesburg to participate in the ‘Raising Learning Outcomes in Education Systems’ Africa Symposium, organised by RLO Programme Research Lead Team. The aim was to explore Africa-focussed research across the Programme, identifying factors which enable or constrain learning outcomes, and potential policy avenues for ensuring effectiveness, equity and quality in the delivery of education in Africa.

Event: Global Disability Summit 2018

July 24th, 2018

On 24th July 2018, DFID, alongside the Government of Kenya and the International Disability Alliance (IDA) hosts the first Global Disability Summit in London. With Government Ministers, high level Private Sector and UN Officials, as well as a range of Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) and disability rights activists in attendance, it is hoped the Summit will raise global attention on disability inclusion and mobilise new global and national commitments, ensuring the rights, freedoms, dignity and inclusion for all persons with disabilities.

Panel Session at the 62nd UN Commission for the Status of Women: How can we improve the life choices for women in rural Africa?

Women and girls are often expected to fulfil roles that limit their ability to make strategic and empowering life choices, this is particularly true in rural settings. A panel of researchers and NGOs will propose policies ideas based on research and evidence on the shame of poverty, social mobility, economic empowerment and educational aspiration.

Event: Bridging the Gap - Insights from Africa: new perspectives on disability and development

March 12th, 2018 to March 13th, 2018

The Impact Initiative is delighted to be supporting a two-day event, hosted by Leonard Cheshire Disability and partners, which will showcase findings from the three year ESRC-DFID funded research project ‘Bridging the Gap: Examining Disability and Development in Four African Countries’. The event takes place on 12-13 March and will be an opportunity to explore key findings from research in Kenya, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zambia.

Event: ESRC-DFID Raising Learning Outcomes in Education Systems Research (RLO) Programme annual grant holders workshop 1st-2nd February 2018

A two-day workshop hosted by the Economic and Social Research Council (UK), the Department for International Development, the Programme Research Lead (PRL) and the Impact Initiative for Raising Learning Outcomes in Education Systems Research (RLO) provided the opportunity for researchers to meet, build networks, explore opportunities for collaboration and share approaches and obstacles when considering pathways to impact and research dissemination.

Event: Putting children first: identifying solutions and taking action to tackle poverty and inequality in Africa

This three-day international conference engaged policy makers, practitioners and researchers in identifying solutions for fighting child poverty and inequality in Africa, and in inspiring action towards change. The conference offers a platform for bridging divides across sectors, disciplines and policy, practice and research.
