Take a tour of the site

Oct 2015

Welcome to

This site aims to showcase the work of grantees and partners connected to the ESRC-DFID Joint Fund for Poverty Alleviation Research and the Raising Learning Outcomes in Education Systems programme. Working in partnership, the Impact Initiative team aim to identify synergies and support the research projects collectively and individually to exploit influencing and engagement opportunities.

We have thought carefully about the features on the site and hope that you find it informative and user friendly.

A tour of the site

The Featured Projects section aims to showcase the work of the partnership – this is an editorialised pick of activity happening across the programme. Meanwhile, each grant recipient and their work is captured on the site and listed under one of eight themes – Education, Gender, Governance, Health, Livelihoods, Security, Urban/Rural , Children and Young people. These categories have been determined as part of a wider piece of work to map research projects.

Within each theme, each project has a dedicated space for an outline of the project, who is working on it and a chance to share the outputs and impacts. This information is largely derived from the data shared on the Research Councils UK website. The data source API is located here.

The whole site provides navigation that cross cuts the individual research projects and identifies content and assets from across research themes and disciplines. To see all the projects associated under one of the eight primary themes click on that part of the menu bar. Use the search icon magnifying glass to jump into a search of all the projects by country, keywords location, organisation, people or publication type. You can also make multiple selections. Use The Impact Initiative logo in the top left of the screen to return to the home page.

Working together we anticipate this area to really grow with the site acting as a document store for published outputs and a place to sign post related content. Please do use the Contact Us section of the site to add more material to these pages.

In an attempt to join the dots, a map view is available to help grantees easily see who else is operating in the region. You can expand the drop pins to dig down into individual project locations and their detail.

News and Views

The News and Views section of the site is a space for you to share upcoming events but also a place to open up dialogue to enrich the debate around the impact of social science on development processes. As the work of The Impact Initiative takes shape, here we will share the findings from round table discussions, online forums and of course invite grantees and partners to blog about their experiences.

The Resources section provides space for tools and learning materials. Throughout the course of the Initiative, we will share specially commissioned resources to help individuals and organisations to share their research more effectively. These will range from practical How To Guides to more reflective “think pieces” designed to inspire and share best practice.

Contact Us

Remember this is your site, and we rely on receiving information to make this a place to share insights and progress. Please use the Contact Us form to share project updates, images, videos and publications. A member of the team will then ensure that your material appears on the site and will contact you to offer project specific research uptake support.

You can also follow updates and share news and views through The Impact Initiative on Twitter.

The Impact Initiative blog posts are either from individual researchers or from major research programmes. Some of the blog posts are original source and are written by researchers and experts connected to the two research programmes jointly funded by ESRC and FCDO: the Joint Fund for Poverty Alleviation Research and the Raising Learning Outcomes in Education Systems Research Programme. Other blog posts are imported from related websites and programmes.

The views expressed in these blogs reflect the opinions of each individual and may not represent the Institute of Development Studies, the University of Cambridge, ESRC or FCDO.

The Impact Initiative welcomes comments.  To enable a healthy environment for discussion we reserve the rights to remove comments if they are considered abusive or disruptive. All comments are reactively moderated. This means that comments are usually only checked if a complaint is made about them.
