Intermediary innovation, evaluation and collaboration

Picture
January 2011, Savar, Banagladesh

This report is a summary of the I-K-Mediary Network Workshop, held in Savar, Bangladesh, and jointly hosted by the Development Research Network (D.Net), Bangladesh and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), U.K. The workshop brought together 35 research intermediaries from 21 organisations in 15 countries to share experiences, learn together and discuss future collaboration. This report captures the thinking and learning that emerged on using theory of change and outcome mapping tools in intermediary work; and lessons learned in different aspects of intermediary work including: designing and developing portals, working with the media, capacities and skillsets needed to be an effective intermediary and web 2.0. The workshop also explored ways in which intermediaries can demonstrate their value to stakeholders, and looked at new technical tools and initiatives. Finally the report outlines seven collaborative activities that the network will be working on together.

Between Ourselves Workshop

Picture
July 2008, Centurion, South Africa

This workshop, organised by the Human Science Research Council and the Institute of Development Studies brought together 30 of the new generation of  research intermediaries to share experiences, learn together and reflect on the "Locating the power of in-between" conference which preceded it. While the  conference explored the role of information intermediaries in supporting greater  use of evidence in policy and practice processes, the workshop enabled those  playing this intermediary role to go into more depth into theoretical and  practical aspects of their work. The workshop report captures the emerging thinking and ideas for action that emerged including: different roles for  intermediaries "just in case and just-in-time"; exploration of policy actors and processes; strategies for exploring the impact of participants’ work; and how to provide the best possible websites for our stakeholders. The report also outlines how participants intend to build on the connections forged during the workshop to create a programme that will support information intermediaries to learn and collaborate together in future.
