Dr. Peter Newell is Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation, University of Warwick . Prior to this he has held posts as Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies University of Sussex U.K, visiting researcher at FLACSO Argentina, lecturer in International Studies at the University of Warwick and researcher and lobbyist for Climate Network Europe in Brussels.
He is author of Climate for Change: Non-State Actors and the Global Politics of the Greenhouse (CUP, 2000), co-author of The Effectiveness of EU Environmental Policy (MacMillan, 2000) and co-editor of Development and the Challenge of Globalisation (ITDG 2002) and The Business of Global Environmental Governance (MIT Press 2005). His main research interests are the political economy of environmental governance and politics of corporate accountability and regulation.
Project - Civil society and trade policy: The Latin American experience – part of Local-Global Citizenship Engagements Research Programme.
Summary - The aim of this research is to engage in a comparative and action oriented research project on lesson learning and strategy building based on the experience of different movements (labour, environment and development and women’s) in Latin America with regard the key trade agreements in the region, namely NAFTA, Mercosur and FTAA.
