Lopita Huq is a Research Fellow at BRAC Development Institute (BDI), BRAC University. She is an anthropologist who has in the past few years overcome her fear of numbers and been engaging in rigorous quantitative analysis, although it is qualitative research she is most passionate about. She has been involved in research since 1994, working mostly with Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), The Population Council, New York and IDS, Sussex University. Her main areas of interest are gender, poverty and citizenship. Her experience includes research on adolescent girls, marriage, dowry and education. Recently she has been working on grassroots organizations, citizenship and rights.

She received her Master’s Degree in Political Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 1993 and a Master’s Degree in Cultural Anthropology (with focus in gender) from The New School for Social Research, New York in 1997.
